How do I add my first object?
Open Stash and pick a template that matches what you're cataloguing — sneakers, books, plants, tools, or any of the 70+ presets. Tap the + button to add an object, fill in what you know, and you're done.
Stash auto-fills what it can from photos, barcodes, and NFC tags. You can keep going by adding more details, attaching receipts, or linking the object to another (e.g. a tool to its toolbox).
What is a template, and can I make my own?
A template is a structure — like Sneaker with fields for brand, size, colorway, bought-on-date, and so on. Stash ships 70+ templates so you can start in seconds.
On Premium you can build your own from scratch: add fields, define types (text, number, date, picture, link to another object), and reuse them across your collection.
Can I bulk-import items from a spreadsheet?
CSV import is on the roadmap for early 2026. For now, scanning barcodes or QR codes is the fastest way to add many items quickly — pick a template, hit scan, repeat.
Does Stash work offline?
Yes. Adding objects, browsing, searching, and scanning all work offline. The only thing that needs internet is the AI Chat and cloud sync across devices — both reconnect and catch up as soon as you're online again.
How do I delete my account?
Open Stash → Settings → Account → Delete account. You'll be asked to re-enter your password to confirm. Deletion permanently removes:
- Your user profile on our servers in Frankfurt
- Every object, property, photo, and reference linked to your account
- Any premium subscription mappings (Apple keeps its own billing record per Apple's policy)
The local app data on your device is wiped at the same time. There is no recovery — make sure you've exported anything you want to keep first.
If you're using Stash as a guest (no email/password), the option reads Delete local data and only wipes the on-device database.
Where is my data stored?
Free / guest: only on your device's local Hive database. Nothing leaves your phone.
Signed-in users: encrypted on your iCloud account (per-device end-to-end) plus a minimal reference on our servers in Frankfurt for cross-device sync and subscription tracking. We never have plaintext access to your inventory.
Can I export my data?
Yes — Settings → Account → Export data downloads a full JSON archive of all your objects and properties. PDF, CSV, and Excel exports are planned for the 2026 release cycle.
I'm switching phones — how do I move my stash?
Signed-in: install Stash on the new device and sign in. Your stash syncs back automatically from iCloud.
Guest: on the old device, Settings → Account → Export data. Copy the file to your new phone and import it after installing Stash.
I forgot my password.
On the login screen tap Forgot password. We'll send a reset link to your registered email. The link expires after one hour for security.
What can the AI actually answer?
Anything that lives in your stash. The AI sees every object, every field, every link between them. Some real examples:
- "How many M4 screws do I have?" → counts across your inventory
- "Where's my kombucha jar?" → returns location + last update
- "What did I add in August?" → time-based query
- "Total value of my watches?" → sums the price field
- "Find duplicates in my book collection" → cross-checks ISBNs and titles
It can also generate charts and export them as PDF or CSV in one go.
Does the AI work offline?
Basic search and filters work offline. The AI Chat itself needs internet — it runs on our servers in Frankfurt.
Does the AI train on my data?
No. Your data is used only to answer your questions in real time, then discarded from the inference pipeline. We don't train models on customer inventories, and we never share your data with the model provider for training purposes.
How do NFC stickers work with Stash?
Stick an NFC tag on an object (or its container), then tap it once with your iPhone to link it to a Stash entry. Next time you tap the sticker, the entry opens directly — no scanning, no typing.
It works without internet. Stash supports NTAG215 stickers (the most common type). A pack of 50 costs roughly €15 on Amazon.
NFC vs QR vs barcode — which should I use?
Barcode: best for items that already have one (books, food, electronics). Stash recognises most product databases and auto-fills name, brand, and category.
QR: best for things without a code. Print a Stash QR on a sticker label and attach it. Works at any angle and any size.
NFC: best for premium use cases. No printing, no scanning — just tap. Slightly pricier per sticker but the fastest possible interaction.
My barcode won't scan. What do I do?
Check the lighting and hold the camera steady. If the product isn't in the global database, Stash will offer to let you add it manually — and your custom entry is saved so the next scan recognises it.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes. Data synced across devices uses iCloud end-to-end encryption. Locally, the Hive database lives in your device's secured app sandbox. Our servers in Frankfurt store only the references needed for sync and subscription tracking — never the raw inventory content in plaintext.
Does Stash track me?
We use Apple App Store Analytics for crash and install metrics. The website uses Google Analytics for traffic stats — you can disable this in your browser. We don't track you across the web, don't sell data, and don't share your inventory with anyone. Full details in our Datenschutz.
What happens if I lose my phone?
Signed-in: install Stash on a new device and sign in. Your stash is restored from iCloud automatically.
Guest: your data lives on the lost device only. We can't recover it — which is also why it's private. The trade-off is yours: sign in for sync + recovery, or stay anonymous and accept the risk of device loss.
